What is the Basalt nib made of?

A precision stainless steel nib, chosen for durability, corrosion resistance and a smooth, consistent line.

What is the difference between the Basalt and the Basalt Yiren nib?

They are sister editions of the same design. The Basalt · Yiren nib is fitted with a Yiren nib for writers who prefer its feel.

It has a substantial metal feel, but the weight is balanced just behind the grip, so it stays comfortable for long writing.

Is the Basalt a good first fountain pen?

Yes. The steel nib is forgiving and consistent, and the metal body makes it durable enough for everyday use.

Details

The Basalt is a metal fountain pen with a precision stainless steel nib, named after the volcanic stone that inspired its finish. It is a dependable everyday fountain pen with the weight and presence of something much more expensive.

The nib

A precision-crafted stainless steel nib gives smooth, controlled, consistent ink flow. Strokes are clean and expressive, which makes it as good for journaling and letters as it is for office notes.

Weight & balance

The metal body gives a reassuring weight that sits just behind the grip. The result is steady control and less hand fatigue across long writing sessions.

Design

A detailed cap, a clean cylindrical silhouette and a finish that recalls natural stone. Design inspired by Japanese artistry: strength expressed through restraint.
